KSW111 Introduction to Social Work and Social Welfare

Course aim
Provide a comprehensive grounding for social work students with a full appreciation of what the profession entails.
Course intended objectives
1.Examine the historical development and growth of the Social Work Profession (Internationally, regionally and locally)
2.Introduce students to the social work profession by looking at the basic functions and mission of social work (commitment of the social work profession to social justice and to the elimination of poverty/social work settings)
3.Introduce the major social work practice methods
4.Introduce the social service delivery structures as mirrored in the social welfare system (current social welfare policies, procedures, and programs)
