This course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills to assess, manage and treat patients with acute respiratory emergencies in the pre-hospital setting. The typical presentation and a detailed assessment of the patient with a respiratory problem will be discussed. The course also covers evaluation of the airway with reference to normal parameters, understanding of basic airway management, and the use of Airway Adjuncts.
Additionally, the aetiology, pathophysiology, pre-hospital assessment findings and appropriate emergency treatment of various respiratory emergencies and conditions will be discussed. The course enables the students to appreciate the sense of urgency for assessment and care management in the patient with inadequate respiration, and advocate for the patient who requires airway and ventilatory support.
